The Stranger On The Phone Part 11 (Short Story)

An ambulance arrived in a few minutes about the same time as a police van. Tricia stepped aside and two of the paramedics bent to attend to him. At the same time, a policeman approached her. Another policeman engaged Cem in a talk about the incident.

“My name is Sam,” one of the paramedics with the victim said. “You’ve been in a motor accident. Answer me without moving your head. We don’t know if you’ve a neck injury. Who’re you?”

“Jack White,” he mumbled, and the other man wrote it down on a notebook.

“Where’re you?”

“What time of the day is this?”

“It’s dark.”

“Excuse me, madam, can I ask you some questions about the accident?” the uniformed man with Tricia said.

“Feel free.”

“My name is Baris.”

“Do you know him?”

“We met for the first time shortly before the unpleasant incident. It happened about 20 minutes ago.”

“Someone please call the ambulance,” she cried out, and then calmed down as much as she could. “Are you all right?” she asked more than once, but he was unresponsive.

She sat down behind his head and stabilized it to avoid unnecessary movement. She took a quick look over his body but there was no visible injury. She checked the pulse on his throat and had a glimpse of hope as she felt something.

“You have been in an accident,” she began quietly, “It’s important that you don’t try to move. My name is Tricia. The ambulance is coming.”

The driver of the car Cem, a man with a svelte physique and wearing a pair of medicated glasses, stood silently before them feeling doubtful about what happened.

The Stranger On The Phone Part 9 (Short Story)

It was about 3° Celsius outside but she headed to her destination unruffled, although concerned about the passersby in a hurry for their destination and the cars speeding past her.

“Hello Tricia, what’re you doing in Istanbul?” the young man right in front of her said.

She hesitated before she stopped. “I don’t know you,” she said.

“Yes, you don’t know me but I’m one of your fans. My mother wears only the clothes that bear your label.”

“Wow, really?”

“Yes, really.”

“I’m flattered.”

“It’s a fact.”

She smiled, gazing at him. He was handsome, but that was the least on her mind.

He secretly clicked two of his fingers, and a moving Mazda Rx-7 lost control and headed towards them. He pushed her to safety and calculatively jumped against the bonnet of the car, hitting the windscreen and rolling over to the ground.

The car came to an abrupt stop without hurting anyone. So many people besieged the scene. Tricia rushed in tears to meet him; her body was shaking.

The Stranger On The Phone Part 8 (Short Story)

Jack had replied to her message. Goose pimple crinkled up her skin, and she sat down on the bed ready to run if something weird happened again. She clicked on the message in anxiety:

Hello Tricia,

It’s okay, Thomas told me you were busy. Thanks for the invitation. I love the idea and will be there. You’ve been on my mind, and I look forward to seeing you again. Take care.

She smiled, even though she felt like jumping up. She liked the fact that he had replied to her message, and that meant a lot to her especially now that she was looking for reasons to believe that he was human and had nothing to do with the mysterious caller.

She turned off the phone again and shoved it beneath the free pillow. Her mind was heavy with the inexplicable acts of her strange caller, and the more she thought about the lovely man she conversed with on the plane the more troubled she became.

She mooned about for several hours before she lay on the bed. In the morning she had a quick bath, applied some makeup, and looked glamorous in her side hairstyle, showing her beautiful neck and shoulder line. She wore a black jacket made of wool, hoping to get the best from her morning date with the man she admired so much.

The Stranger On The Phone Part 7 (Short Story)

Tricia reclined on the bed with relief, balancing with her legs on the floor, considering whether to send a text message to Jack or call him. She would like to hear his melodious voice, but she was scared that the first caller might intercept the call and make her night horrific.

She sat upright again after a while and began to type a message for Jack:

Hi, Jack. I’m so sorry I missed your call. Thank you for trying to reach me, despite the interruption you encountered at 9 pm. I will like to see you. Do you mind if we meet in a restaurant for breakfast later this morning? If no, let’s meet in Olive Restaurant at 8 am. You will find the restaurant in front of the central park. Thanks for understanding.

She reluctantly sent the message, turned off her phone, and hid it away beneath one of the pillows on the bed. She adjusted comfortably, her head on a pillow, eyes closed, but her active mind had kept her awake for some moments before she fell asleep. The window curtains heaved as a sudden breeze stirred, and in a corner of the room a vague shadow of a man was still, staring at her as if he were considering what to do to her. She turned away backing him, and by chance she opened her eyes and could not wait to go through her phone.

The Stranger On The Phone Part 6 (Short Story)

“I banged the door, and two security men came to my rescue. They looked everywhere, but they did not find anyone. I decided to leave the hotel in their presence.”

“That was a smart move.”

“I thought it was until I got another call from Jack while I was about to leave the hotel. I asked one of the men to answer the call on my behalf. He was obliged to do it because of my broken mood, but he put it on speaker.”

“That was good.”

“Yes, it was. I could listen to their conversation.”

“Their conversation? Did Jack talk to him?”

“Yes, he did. He even thought he had called a wrong number as soon as he heard a male’s voice.”

“Okay, go ahead I’m listening.”

He apologized, but he later found out that it was the right number. That was when he said what shocked me, and at the same time gave me a sense of relief.”

“What did he say?”

“He said we’d an appointment at 9 pm but that my number was engaged when he called at exactly that time.”

“Are you saying that there’s a ghost stalking you?”

“Something is definitely wrong. Something tells me that the second caller had nothing to do with the first.”

“Have you talked to him?”

“No, I’m scared.”

“Where’re you now?”

“I checked into Tilton hotel three hours ago. I just had a terrible nightmare, and I’m at the verge of running mad.”

No, don’t think about that. Has the first caller called again?”

“In that case, you need to summon courage and call the second caller. Send him a text if you can’t speak with him. Then get the police involved if the first caller tries to contact you again.”

“I will. Thanks mum.”

“I will do anything for you, my daughter. I love you.”

“I love you too, mum.”

“Go back to bed. Free your mind. Don’t think about the first caller since he has not called again.

The Stranger on the Phone Part 5 (Short Story)

“I’m surprised that you’re up by this hour of the night in Istanbul. Are you on a date?”

“No, mum. I’d a terrible nightmare.”

“It’s just a nightmare, don’t let it bother you.”

“It’s more than a nightmare.”

“Is there something you want to tell me?”

“Yes, mum.”

“Go ahead, I’m listening.”

“I met a handsome guy on the plane on my way here. His name is Jack. We got talking. I liked him, and I gave him my number. I got his text message yesterday morning. He wanted to know if I could talk to him at 9 pm. I accepted, and I got a call at exactly 9 pm. The caller ID was Jack. I picked the call, and he asked me if I could see him. I told him we were not in a video call. He said he could see me.”

“Was that a joke?”

“No, it wasn’t and I was scared. To make matters worse, he said he was standing beside me… Hello, are you there?”

“I’m here. It’s scary.”

“Yes, it is.”

“What did you do?”

“I looked around and headed for the door in anxiety. Guess what?”

“He spoke to me after I had cut the line, but I heard his voice.”

“What’s going on, Tricia? Have you been drinking lately?”

“No mum. I told you I’d stopped drinking. I’m telling you exactly what happened to me today.”

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to doubt you.”

“It’s okay mum, I understood you. I could have asked the same question to anyone in my situation.”

“I’m glad you saw reasons with me. What did he say?”

“He said I should not be afraid. He called me his princess.”

“His princess?”

“Yes, and I asked him who he was. He said he was Jack, the man I met on the plane.”
